Too late for us to give a relationship another shot?

So I'm 16 and there's this guy that I talked to everyday for hours last year and hung out with, but we got in a stupid fight (my fault of course) and things have been a little awkward ever since. The thing was, we never actually dated - we were just getting to that point when everything fell apart. He still texted me throughout this past school year occasionally, but we never got anywhere near as close as we were before. Is it too late for me to start talking to him again in an attempt to at least rekindle the friendship we had? Too late for any hope at a relationship?
